Sad to report I have just received a phone call to say that Ron Thomas had passed away after a long illness in Colwyn Bay Hospital at the age of 87.
Ron was a Shropshire man and played 75 times for his county before moving to live in Shareshill near Wolverhampton in the mid 80’s. Ron joined the Mitchells & Butlers club in Wolverhampton where he enjoyed great success. He went onto play 25 games for Staffordshire and became one of a unique band of players to play 100 Crosfield Cup Games.
In later life he moved to live in North Wales with his wife Edna. His funeral is at Colwyn Bay Crematorium on Tuesday 16th Feb at 11.00am.
Ron was a great bowler and a true gent & sportsman. He is now reunited with his great buddies George MacGill & John Cole.

So sad to hear of Ronnies death. Ron was a Wonderful player and was always Mr Calm and Tranquil in his game, loping around the green in one of his many pairs of sandals. Good man to talk to about anything and very knowledgable about the game we all love. I can remember in my early days at Butlers seeing Ron and George Macgill talking with the boots of their cars open, and when I looked in, I saw in both cars the biggest display of bowls I had ever seen and they were discussing size and weight of bowls for the game that day. Ronnie had the Ace tho, cos he had nearly as many pairs of sandals and socks to pick from. I played several doubles comps with Ron and he was always telling me to play the weight thro a 6 inch gap when all the bowls were crowding the jack. I normally smashed them off the green,, and later over a pint he would laugh and call me impetuous and a Vandal cos that was'nt the way to do it. Learned so much about the game from Ron and he will always be dear to me in memory.
Rest in Peace Ronnie and I'm sure you have got some great games ahead of you with Macca and Coley
WITH LOVE FROM ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND BROTHERS AT M & B Cheslyn Hay

Sad to here of the death of one of the games real gentlemen. I will always remember fondly the matches played,
the discussions regarding the finer points of the game and the meticulous records he kept of every game he played.
He will be sadly missed.
RIP Ron
